Tea,
that magical brew from the Camellia sinensis plant, has been gracing our cups for millennia, tracing its origins to the misty hills of northeast India, north Myanmar, and southwest China. Over the years, it has conquered hearts and taste buds worldwide, becoming the second most consumed drink after water.

But tea isn't just about sipping and enjoying its delightful aroma; it's also an economic lifeline for millions of families in developing countries. Tea production and processing provide livelihoods for countless individuals, particularly in remote and economically disadvantaged areas. It's a crucial cash crop, playing a significant role in rural development, poverty reduction, and food security.

So, when you indulge in your favorite cuppa and showing up with one of our unique PoM prints on textiles, mugs, hats or posters, you will remember yourself and others, that you're not just quenching your thirst; you're also supporting communities across the globe.
Your tea consumption can bring health benefits and wellness,
thanks to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and weight loss properties. And don't forget its cultural significance – tea ceremonies and traditions are deeply woven into the fabric of many societies.

The Intergovernmental Group on Tea has called for greater efforts to expand tea demand, especially in tea-producing countries where consumption is low. They also urge us to address the declining per capita consumption in traditional importing countries.

Background Check ...

In response, the United Nations General Assembly designated May 21st as International Tea Day, promoting and fostering collective actions to:

    • Implement sustainable tea production and consumption practices
    • Raise awareness of tea's importance in fighting hunger and poverty
    • Recognize tea production's contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in reducing poverty, promoting gender equality, and ensuring sustainable land use

Tea production is also sensitive to climate change. Tea plants thrive in specific agro-ecological conditions, limiting their cultivation to a handful of countries. Changes in temperature and rainfall patterns, with more floods and droughts, are already affecting yields, quality, and prices, threatening livelihoods.

Tea-producing countries must integrate climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies into their national tea development plans. We must also reduce carbon emissions from tea production and processing, contributing to climate change mitigation.

International TEA Day (annually, 21st May)

So, as we celebrate International Tea Day, let's raise our teacups to the resilience of tea communities, the importance of sustainable practices, and the future of our beloved beverage.

May tea continue to bring joy, health, and prosperity to the world!
