About Niagara University ...

Niagara University is a liberal arts university in the Vincentian and Catholic traditions. Basic to the academic, co-curricular and extracurricular programs at NU is the conviction that the students need, on the one hand, to be prepared for productive roles in society and, on the other, to be provided with the opportunity to fulfill their intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual potential.

Niagara University, founded by the Vincentian Community in 1856, is a private liberal arts university located near Niagara Falls, New York. Initially established as the College and Seminary of Our Lady of Angels, it moved to its current location on Monteagle Ridge in 1857. Over time, the school expanded, offering undergraduate and graduate programs in fields such as Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Hospitality, and Nursing. In 1883, it officially became Niagara University, and the seminary later relocated.

The university has grown significantly, now serving over 4,000 students. It emphasizes community service, with its IMPACT program engaging students in service learning experiences, contributing more than 50,000 hours annually to local communities. Niagara maintains a Catholic, values-driven education rooted in the teachings of St. Vincent de Paul.

Over the years, Niagara University has undergone major campus developments, including renovations of historic buildings and modern additions such as the B. Thomas Golisano Center for Integrated Sciences and the renovated Kiernan Recreation Center in 2023. The university also supports a vibrant sports culture, competing in NCAA Division I and boasting notable alumni like Calvin Murphy and Hubie Brown.

Niagara's student body is diverse, with many coming from New York, Canada, and other international regions, particularly in its College of Education. The university remains committed to its Vincentian mission of education, service, and social change.
